Our Community Won't be the Same đź’”

It is with great sadness that we send our deepest, most sincere condolences to the Brichford family who have lost their beloved Matthew. Our community won’t be the same without Matthew’s extraordinary talents and  infectious passion for his craft.

If you didn’t know him, Matthew was one of the best cheesemakers of his time (and we would argue, of all time). We were so lucky to have his craftsmanship right here in Indiana. Winning several awards, Jacobs & Brichford have been producing grass-fed and raw milk cheeses of the highest quality for many decades. đź§€

Buying local means supporting small creamery and dairy operations like Jacobs & Brichford. Small, local producers often give everything they have to bring their communities healthy food with serious integrity. Our greatest desire at Acorn Acres Farm is to share our bounty of high quality, nutrient dense food with our community, while uplifting other makers and artisans alike.

J&B Cheese has officially shut down, but remember, next time you’re perusing our dairy section in the store, we have so many hardworking, small producers to support and thank. We can all play a part in ensuring the production of healthy, local food options, providing the resources to be able to pass along invaluable skills like cheesemaking.

Produce

This week’s fresh harvest includes a growing offering from our gardens!

  • Asparagus—limited supply and first of the season!!

  • Beets

  • Blueberries (frozen)

  • Green Onions / Purple Scallions

  • Herbs—Fresh (dill, celery, chives, ramp tops etc.) and dried options available!

  • Kale

  • Leaf Lettuce

  • Mixed Greens—endive, mixed leaf lettuce, kale, spinach, and other baby greens

  • Mushrooms—Fresh Oak Log Grown Shiitake, a Chef's Sampler (Maitake, Alba and Brown Clamshell, Trumpet Royale, Grey Oyster) and bulk Maitake Frondosa

  • Mustard Greens—Purple and Green Mix

  • Potatoes 

  • Pumpkins and other Winter Squash (and gourde) varieties including autumn frost and Musquee de Provence (Fairytale Pumpkins) and more! 

  • Ramps—Last call for ramps!!

  • ​Spinach

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Swiss Chard

As always, our produce is GMO-free and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides — and we make sure it stays that way, even for crops  that are tricky to grow naturally!

Dairy & Eggs

This week’s options include:

  • Grass-fed, organic, non-homogenized, low heat pasteurized cow's milk (from Kalona Supernatural this week!), butter  (Small Acres Specialty Farms tub butter only), cheese (cottage and GGC sharp cheddar), French Dip, kefir, sour cream, whipping cream, and yogurt (vanilla and plain this week)! 

  • Chicken eggs AND duck eggs this week!
