Every Day is Earth Day at Acorn Acres Farm! šŸŒ

We’re always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint by recycling, repurposing, restoring, and regenerating—four core values that are woven into everything we do, both on the farm and in the store. ā™»ļø

We’re so grateful to our amazing community for supporting these efforts. You show up every week with your own bags, boxes, crates, and coolers—and that small shift has made a big difference. Thanks to you, we’ve eliminated the need to purchase large shopping bags, helping us cut costs and reduce waste.

Out on the farm, we’re committed to sustainable practices. That means using solar-powered fencing, natural pest and weed control, and never applying synthetic herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides.

Our commitment to sustainability started early. Thanks to our parents, we were raised learning many of the earth-friendly practices we still use today. We believe that caring for the planet can begin at any age—and continue for generations.

Together, we’re building a more sustainable future that supports the earth instead of depleting it. We couldn’t do this without you. Thank you for being part of it. šŸ’š

Produce

This week’s local fresh harvest includes a stunning, winter abundance!!

  • Arugula (both mild and hot wasabi)

  • Beets (red and golden with tops)

  • Blueberries (frozen)

  • Carrots

  • Herbs— fresh chives, cilantro, dill, mint, rosemary and plenty of dried options available!

  • Horseradish

  • Kale

  • Lettuce (mixed leafy and head)

  • Mixed Greens

  • Mushrooms—fresh shiitake!! And, dried options available!

  • Mustard Greens

  • Pac Choy (Vivid Choi)—versatile, mild greens with unique, colorful stems. Great for salad mixes, braising, or stir-fry. First of the season, enjoy!

  • Ramps

  • Spinach

  • Swiss Chard

  • Next week’s projection: similar to the above with the potential add-on of asparagus and rhubarb. We’re hoping for strawberries to start coming in at the same time so that we can shift to making our strawberry rhubarb pies—Ann, our mom, made it with little to no sugar (just the bursting, flavorful sweetness of fresh, local, heirloom strawberries)!! As a brief farming / weather summary, all local farmers are experiencing some spring harvest delays. We need the warmth of the golden, buttery sun to shine down on our plants and then we’d love just enough rain to help our seeds plump up and explode with their embryonic roots!

As always, our produce is GMO-free and grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides — and we make sure it stays that way, even for crops  that are tricky to grow naturally!

Dairy & Eggs

This week’s options include:

  • Grass-fed, organic, non-homogenized, low heat pasteurized milk (A1/A2 mix and 100% A2/A2 certified option this week), butter (limited supply), cheese (cottage cheese, cottage cheese kefir, and GGC sharp cheddar), French dip, yogurt (plain or vanilla), and whipping cream. Heidi from Homestead Farm is planning to come to the store Saturday the 10th of May! She will be sharing her stories from the creamery and her many years of experience making extraordinary cheese from their grass fed cows! Please mark your calendars and make a plan to stop by!

  • Chicken AND Duck eggs this week! Our eggs are hand harvested and cleaned. Our chickens are raised on not simply organic but also a soy free grain mix along with their free range diet. There really is nothing like the consistency and flavor of these delectable treats from heritage breeds . . . we bring out the connoisseurs!

This week’s options (while supplies last) include:

  • Beef Prime Steaks: NY Strip, Ribeye, and Sirloin tip!

  • Beef Savory Roasts, Steaks & Ribs: Brisket (plenty large enough for smoking), Chuck Arm, Round (top, bottom, eye, and full), Flat Iron, Mock Tenderloin, and Rump & Sirloin Tip Roasts and Steaks. 

  • Beef Grill Options: Ground Beef and Round. Beef Patties (3 or 4 pk)! We're also carrying The Brooklyn Hot Dog Company dogs: All Beef or Beef & Pork! Buy two or more packages for a 10% discount (see our boxes on our pre-order form)!

  • Beef Stew & Organ Meat Options: Stew Meat (limited supply), Soup bones and Organ Meats, including cheeks, heart, kidney, liver, and more! 

  • Chicken (frozen): Whole, Cut-ups (breast—boneless / skinless, leg quarters, and drums—a 10% discount if you buy 2 pkgs or more of leg quarters or drums while supplies last!!). We also have Ground Chicken and Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage! And, chicken organ meat (including: backs, necks, feet, liver, and gizzard)!

    • Pork Chops (thick or thin / boneless or bone-in), Pork Steaks, Baby Back & Spareribs and more! Other cuts: Back Fat for making your own lard! And Pork Neck Bones for that favorite Pasta Sauce flavor. 

    • Pork Roasts: Like pulled pork? We have both the Pork Butt and the Picnic Roasts fresh frozen (about 2.5 to >8 lbs each).
