A Snow Day Activity! (+ This Week's Meat, Dairy & Veggies)

Did you know our potatoes can be regrown? This is possible because we believe in never using pesticides, herbicides, or any chemical that inhibits sprouting so that we can avoid health risks and reuse nature's gifts. Our mom regrew ours every winter to feed the family the best organic produce.

To regrow potatoes: when it gets eyes on it, plant your potato in a pot or in the ground with soil. They can be cut into pieces if you wish but the whole potato is fine to use. Another great option for reusing your potatoes as they start getting wrinkles is to use them for your favorite mashed potato recipe or soup – just remember to remove the eyes before you enjoy the extra sweetness and flavor!

To regrow sweet potatoes: cut one in half and put it in a glass jar with water; use 3 toothpicks to balance it so that it doesn't touch the bottom of the jar and is touching the water at all times (refill as needed). When a vine grows, take it off the potato and add it to a separate jar with water and when it sprouts roots, plant it, potted or straight in the soil!

Stop by our farm store on 360 Indian Boundary Rd in Chesterton, IN to shop for sweet potatoes and blue, red, and yellow/white potatoes, plus more of your favorite produce, grass-fed and pastured meats, eggs, dairy, & pantry goods.
